L'invention concerne un procédé continu de préparation de chlorure de pivaloyle et de chlorure d'aroyle, notamment, de chlorure de benzoyle qui consiste à faire réagir l'acide pivalique avec un composé aromatique trichlorométhylé, en présence d'un catalyseur à une température comprise entre 60 °C et 180 °C, sous pression réduite. Les produits formés sont éliminés en continu de la zone de réaction ; le chlorure d'hydrogène formé étant traité dans une zone de lavage dans laquelle circule à contrecourant un composé trichlorométhylé.
