L'invention concerne un procédé continu de fabrication de .beta.-isophorone par isomérisation en catalyse homogène de l'.alpha.- isophorone. Ce procédé consiste à introduire dans une zone réactionnelle l'.alpha.-isophorone et une solution d'un hydroxyde alcalin, à porter ledit milieu réactionnel à une température allant de 150°C à 276°C, à éliminer dudit milieu, simultanément, par distillation une fraction contenant une quantité pondérale de .beta.-isophorone allant de 30 % à 90 % et, par soutirage, des produits lourds, puis à effectuer la rectification de la fraction éliminée du milieu réactionnel par distillation.
