A polyurethane/urea/thiourea latex having a narrow molecular weight polydispersity and sub-micron particle size can be prepared by first preparing a high internal phase ratio (HIPR) emulsion of a polyurethane/urea/thiourea prepolymer, then contacting the emulsion with a chain-extending reagent under such conditions to form the polymer latex.

L'invention concerne un latex polyuréthanne/urée/thio-urée à polydispersité étroite des masses moléculaires et à taille particulaire submicronique. On peut obtenir ledit latex en préparant d'abord une émulsion où le rapport de phase interne HIPR d'un prépolymère de polyuréthanne/urée/thio-urée est élevé, puis en mettant en contact l'émulsion avec un réactif allongeur de chaîne dans des conditions permettant de former le latex polymère.
