ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A continuous production of 1,2-pentanediol is descri- bed starting from pentene, which is epoxidized in a completely homogeneous phase with perpropionic acid in benzene to 1- pentene oxide which is in turn saponified directly without isolation. High yields and a high degree of purity of 1,2-pentanediol are obtained.
