A unitary one quarter mile long railroad rail and system and method for manufacturing the same. The unitary rail eliminates the problem of weld seams in the one quarter mile long sections of rails which are transported to the installation site The method of manufacture is characterized by the use of a continuous rolling process and the in-line controlled cooling of the rail.
