Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention relates to a method wherein seedlings are raised in paper cylinders connected together by means of bridging portions, and the cylinders are continuously pulled out while separating them one by one along separation lines of the bridging portions, and are then planted in the field. In the separation of seedlings, a planter is provided with rolls for pulling out the cylinders, and with other rolls for separating the pulled out cylinders into individual seedling cylinders. The separating rolls have a faster rotating speed than the pulling rolls, and have a cone-like shape or are mounted so as to incline with respect to the pulling rolls, thereby separating paper cylinders into individual cylinders by progressive action along the bridging portions.
