ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A self-propelled, endless transport track mounted, continuous mining machine for use in open-cast pits, having a drum-shaped cutting head with cutting teeth arranged around the periphery of the drum. The excavated material is discharged via a feed chute (12) onto a discharge conveyor (2, 3, 4). The latter is a continuous conveyor. The first section (2) of the discharge conveyor runs axially within the cutting drum (1). Outside the cutting drum, the discharge conveyor merges into a vertical section (3), which extends up to the height of the upper edge of the chassis (5) of the mining machine. The last section (4) of the discharge conveyor runs in a gentle incline above the frame (5) of the disccharge conveyor and ends at a discharge point (6) where the excavated material is transferred to a bridge conveyor (8) installed in a connecting bridge (7). The discharge conveyor (2, 3, 4) consists of a pan conveyor utilizing a special conveyor belt made of rubber or the like material and having transverse partitions (9) which are approximately the same height as the corrugated side walls (10) with which the transverse partitions form a plurality of compartments. The section of the pan conveyor which is loaded with excavated material, namely the section between the Feed chute and the transfer point (6), is engaged with a covering belt (11 ) which encloses the compartments of the pan conveyor to keep the conveyed material in the pockets of the pan conveyor.
