Abstract A control apparatus for hydrostatic motor vehicle steering apparatus comprises a quantity setting apparatus (7) with a steering wheel (6). There is a pump pressure regulating valve (11) controlled by the load pressure. An amplifier (17) comprises a directional valve which is closed in the neutral position and is actuatable by the pressure at the control connection (L1, R1) that is under pressure. Each motor connection (CL, CR) is connected to its associated control connection (L1, R1) by way of a prestressed check valve (46, 47) which opens towards the steering motor (4). In this way, pressure pulses on commencement of steering are avoided.
