A power supply or inverter circuit (10) is provided for regulating power to electroluminescent lamps (48) over a range of lamp sizes. The power supply may have an AC and/or DC input and includes at least one switch (64) having a power input (68) to be coupled to an electrical power source, a control input (66), and an output (70) to be coupled to an electroluminescent lamp (48) for being switched on and off to generate a drive to the lamp having a predetermined constant frequency and current level that is selectable over a range of frequency and current levels. A constant current mode controller (76) has a control output (6) coupled to the control input of the switch (64) for turning the switch on and off so as to maintain a constant current level and frequency of the drive signal to the electroluminescent lamp substantially over its operating life. The voltage applied to the lamp is allowed to increase to a predetermined voltage limiting value in order to provide compensation due to aging of the lamp.
L'invention concerne une alimentation ou un circuit inverseur (10), qui permet de réguler l'alimentation de lampes électroluminescentes (48) de toutes dimensions. L'alimentation, qui peut comporter une entrée courant alternatif et/ou courant continu, comprend au moins un commutateur (64) pourvu d'une entrée de puissance (68) destinée à être couplée à une source d'énergie électrique, une entrée de commande (66) et une sortie (70) destinée à être couplée à une lampe électroluminescente (48). Le commutateur peut être mis en circuit et hors circuit, de façon à générer pour ladite lampe une excitation dont la fréquence et l'intensité constantes prédéterminées peuvent être sélectionnées dans une certaine plage de fréquences et d'intensités. Une unité de commande de mode (76) à courant constant comporte une entrée de commande (6), couplée à l'entrée de commande du commutateur (64), qui met ce dernier en circuit ou hors circuit de façon à maintenir constantes l'intensité et la fréquence du signal de commande destiné à la lampe durant sensiblement toute la vie utile de celle-ci. La tension appliquée à la lampe peut augmenter jusqu'à une valeur de limitation de tension prédéterminée afin de compenser le vieillissement de ladite lampe.
