ABSTRACT This invention relates to a control circuit for regulating a knife. To manufacture synthetic pockets from a continuous foil tubing web, a knife in the web produces an undulatory cutoff. In the prior art, the knife is supported by a rotating cutter head which can be moved diagonally to the guide motion of the web. The cutter head is shifted and rotated through a groove of a drum controller. The disadvantage of this is that a separate drum controller is required for each undulatory cutoff. The control circuit should make it possible to manufacture various types of undulatory cutoffs. The control circuit of the present invention has a subdivider circuit which divides the length of a cutoff into straight-lined pieces and sinusoidal pieces. The sinusoidal pieces are divided in a divider circuit into longitudinal increments. The course of a sinusoidal part is stored in a memory bank in the unit scale. The matching lateral increment is determined in the unit scale by interpolation for each longitudinal increment, these lateral increments being multiplied with the amplitude of the cutoff in a multiplier. The actual resultant lateral increments are stored in sequence in a further memory bank. A synchronous and sequence circuit feeds the lateral increments stored in the additional memory bank to a first motor control circuit which regulates the motor for the lateral movement of the knife carrier. The motor disposed on the knife carrier for rotation of the knife is regulated by a second motor control circuit to which the lateral increments are also fed, but in a sequence which corresponds to the first mathematical derivative of the sequence fed to the first motor control circuit. The circuit makes it possible to produce cutoffs of various sizes by inputting the length and amplitude.
