A control device is provided for a serially-connected circuit, including a retainer, a control element, and a socket. The retainer forms a receptacle having an open end and a terminal guide. The control element has two terminals and the control element is received in the receptacle with the terminals extending through the terminal guide in a spaced and thus electrically isolated manner. End sections of the terminals are bent and overlap outer surfaces of the terminal guide. The socket forms an open chamber in which two contact pads are retained and the contact pads are electrically connected to the cable that constitutes in part the serially-connected circuit. The retainer is fit into the chamber of the socket to have the end sections of the terminals of the control element physically engaging the contact pads. By simply fitting the retainer into the chamber of the socket, electrical connection is easily established therebetween and the control element is connected the serially-connected circuit to effect desired control of the circuit. The control element may include a fuse that ensures operation safety of the circuit.
