A control equipment (6) is provided for automati- cally controlling power units (B1 ... Bn) in an electri- cal power supply system (1), which control equipment comprises a first control unit (SE1) which is connected via a data transmission element (4) to each power unit (B1 ... Bn) to be controlled, receives power-unit-speci- fic measured variables (M1 ... Mn) and emits power-unit- specific reference variables (S1 ... Sn). The control unit (SE1) evaluates the measured variables (M1 ... Mn) cyclically taking account of stored values (C1 ... Cn) and defines a control instruction (S) for one or each power unit (B1 ... Bn). Particularly effective control of the power units (B1 ... Bn) is possible by means of such a control equipment (6), both a predetermined reliability level of the power supply or electricity supply being maintained and an unnecessarily high power reserve being avoided.
