A torque limiter control sets the limit of power which may be absorbed by a pump. A feedback system adjusts the displacement in the pump in response to changes in the pressure of working fluid at the pump outlet to maintain a set power. A torque limiter set adjustment applies a torque setting force to a vent spool to bias the vent spool against a vent port to thereby seal the port. As working pressure fluid increases, the force of the fluid acting on the vent sleeve ultimately overcomes the setting of the torque limiter and commences to pull which in turn permits fluid to flow through a compensator metering spool to thereby change the displacement of the pump.
