CONTROL FOR HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A control for a hydrostatic transmission having selectable positions for controlling the flow of fluid to achieve forward, reverse and neutral positions and to govern output speed, which control includes a control member operably connected to the transmission, an actuator, such as a foot pedal assembly, mounted for movement between reverse, and neutral positions, and a pivotal crank including a first leg connected to the actuator, a second leg connected to the control member, an intermediate third leg having a tab on the outer end thereof. The control member is urged towards a neutral position by a pair of arms mounted at one end coaxially with the bell crank and having outer free ends disposed on opposite sides of the tab on the third arm of the bell crank, and a spring interconnecting the free ends of the arms and biasing them towards each other and into engagement with the tab. One arm engages a stationary stop at a location corresponding to the neutral position as the bell crank and the other arm is pivoted in one direction from the neutral position in response to movement of the actuator. This causes the spring to be stretched and the spring subsequently returns the bell crank to the neutral position when the actuator is released. The arms operate in the reverse -22- fashion when the bell crank is pivoted in the opposite direction from neutral. The foot pedal includes a pedal support mounted for pivotal movement in opposite directions from the neutral position and a foot pedal mounted on the pedal support for pivotal movement between raised and depressed positions. A latch assembly for releasably locking the pedal assembly in the neutral position is released by depressing the foot pedal.
