A web-winding apparatus includes a winding roll for contacting a web, a camshaft which is axially mounted in the winding roll, and push rods which engage the camshaft and which are radially movable by the camshaft to latch and unlatch web-engaging devices on the winding roll. The web-engaging devices can include transfer pins, cutoff blades, and transfer pads. The camshaft is normally rotated at the same speed as the winding roll by a servo motor, and the camshaft is rotated relative to the push rods when the servo motor changes the speed of the camshaft relative to the winding roll.
