ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A control mechanism for a steering system for individually or simultaneously controlling the turning movements of the front and rear wheels of a vehicle is disclosed herein. The steering system is capable of con- trolling the movement of the rear wheels in a plurality of modes with respect to the front wheels and one mode in which the rear wheels are independently controlled. The control mechanism includes a switch having a plurality of positions corresponding to the different modes. The switch includes a selector knob mounted for rotational movement on a fixed support. A control device electrically connected to the control mechanism controls the turning movement of the rear pair of wheels independently of the turning of the front pair of wheels. The control device is preferably a momentary contact rocker switch capable of varying an out- put signal. Hydraulic cylinder mechanisms are provided at each wheel to turn the wheel. A sensing device at each wheel senses the existing angular position of the wheel and sends a signal dependent thereon to the control mechanism.
