A method for controlling hyperthermia treatment appa- ratus using ultrasound and hyperthermia treatment apparatus are disclosed in which ultrasound focused to a focal spot is transmitted and the position of the focal spot relative to the transducer or transducer supporting means is varied, in which the peak power of the focal spot and the degree of overlap between the various positions of said focal spot are such that the energy radiated during a shot at each point on the region scanned by said variation of the position of said focal spot with respect to the transducer or transducer supporting means and constituting an equivalent focal spot is substantially equal to the energy needed to destroy the cell tissue.
