ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A control method is disclosed for valve-timing changeover in an engine in which valve timing for at least each one of the intake valves or exhaust valves can be changed over between low-speed valve timing suitable for a low engine speeds and high-speed valve timing suitable for a high engine speeds. The method comprises the steps of comparing the engine output obtained with the low-speed valve timing to the engine output obtained with the high-speed valve timing, and changing over the valve timing on the basis of said comparison.
