ABSTRACT Corrosion of metals in contact with an aqueous solution is reduced by adding an effective amount of an oxygen scavenger selected from the group of phloroglucinol and other scavengers of the formula: Image wherein R1, R2, and R3 may be the same or different and are each a member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, and lower alkyl having 1 to about 8 carbon atoms; or water soluble salts thereof.
