ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE CONTROLLABLE DRIVE FOR TAPE RECORDER In a tape recorder, a controllable drive is provided for self-powered resetting of the tape recorder. The fly wheel is mounted in concentric relationship with the capstan, together with a drive gear; and a toothed wheel having first and second toothed portions and a hiatus is mounted to be driven by the drive gear. The first toothed portion of the toothed wheel is effective to establish a selected mode of operation of the tape recorder, and a hiatus is effective to avoid any engagement between the toothed wheel and the drive gear so as to enable the self-powered returning movement of the tape recorder. The second toothed portion is effective to apply a braking action to the returning movement. There is a cam integral with the toothed wheel, and a link which is angularly driven by the cam for producing force necessary to operate the tape recorder, and a locking mechanism operative to lock the toothed wheel in its first position or its second position, thereby determining the selected mode of operation or reset.
