Abstract of the Disclosure This invention concerns getters for controlled atmosphere and vacuum processes, and in particular, for pro- cesses carried out in an atmosphere having a very low oxygen content. The invention has beer particularly developed for the vacuum brazing of parts, such as gas turbine components, but has a wide variety of other applications, including argon purged retort brazing and diffusion bonding. The getter unit of this invention comprises a temperature resistant rigid support and a layer of a metallic substance thereon having an affinity for oxygen and having a melting range so as to be at least in partially molten liquid state at the elevated operating temperature of the process, said metallic substance comprising a low melting alloy incorporating a metal selected from the group consisting of zirconium and titanium.
