A heat recovery device comprises a housing with an air intake opening, a heating; outlet, and an air discharge opening for connection in the path of the air exhausted by a clothes dryer. A valve is located within the heating outlet, and a deflector is placed inside the housing for directing the exhaust air towards the heating outlet. The valve is controlled to alternatively open and close the heating outlet each time a predetermined temperature is detected inside the housing. The valve opens during the dryer cycle, and the hot exhausted air is directed to the interior of the building. When the predetermined temperature is reached again during the cooling down period, the valve closes.
