Method and apparatus for removing a natural lens from an eye provides for inserting an infusion cannula (20) into an anterior chamber of an eye and establishing fluid communication into a lens capsule from the anterior chamber (28). A phacoemulsification needle (30) is inserted into the lens capsule for emulsification of a natural lens (12) while introducing irrigation fluid (26) into the anterior chamber and lens capsule through the infusion cannula. Emulsified lens is aspirated through a lumen in the phacoemulsification needle and a sleeve (46), surrounding the phacoemulsification needle, enables outflow of irrigation fluid in order to maintain intraocular pressure and cool the phacoemulsification needle.

Un procédé et un appareil d'extraction d'un cristallin naturel de l'oeil consiste à insérer une canule de perfusion (20) dans une chambre intérieure d'un oeil et à établir une communication fluide dans une capsule du cristallin à partir de la chambre antérieure (28). Une aiguille de phaco-émulsification (30) est insérée à l'intérieur de la capsule du cristallin pour l'émulsification d'un cristallin naturel (12) tout en introduisant un liquide d'irrigation (26) dans la chambre antérieure et la capsule du cristallin par la canule de perfusion.
