The present invention relates to an article comprising an elastomeric matrix and at least one biologically or nonbiologically active agent contained in the matrix, the said matrix being formed by reacting a carboxyl -terminated polymer, selected from either hydrophobic or hydrophilic carboxyl terminated polymers, with a polycarbodiimide, with (a) the said hydrophobic carboxyl - terminated polymer comprising a major component selected from the group consisting of carboxyl -terminated polybutadi ene, carboxyl - terminated polyisoprene, carboxyl -terminated copolymers of butadiene with acrylonitrile, carboxyl -terminated copolymers of butadiene with styrene, carboxyl - terminated copolymers of isoprene with acrylonitrile, carboxyl -terminated copolymers of isoprene with styrene, and mixtures of the above, the carboxylic acid terminated polymer having an average molecular weight in the range of 1000 to 20000. (b) the said hydrophilic carboxyl -terminated polymer comprising a major component selected from the group consisting of carboxyl - terminated polyethylene oxides, carboxyl-terminated polyether polyols which are copolymers of ethylene oxide and of an alkylene oxide having 3 -6 carbons atoms, in an amount of not more than 50 mole percent of said copolymer and ha ving molecular weight from 400 to 20000. (c) the said polycarbodiimide being selected from the group consisting of the aromatic, cycloaliphatic, aliphatic and heterocyclic carbodiimides, and mixtures of two of more of the above and the said polycarbodiimid e having an average functionality higher or equal to 2 and the carbodiimide/carboxylic acid molar ratio from polycarbodiimide and from carboxyl -terminated polymer being in the range of 0.7 to 6.
L'invention concerne un article qui comprend une matrice élastomère et au moins un agent actif biologique ou non-biologique contenu dans la matrice. La matrice est formée en faisant réagir un polymère à terminaison carboxyle sélectionné parmi des polymères hydrophobes ou hydrophiles à terminaison carboxyle avec un polycarbodiimide. Le polymère hydrophobe à terminaison carboxyle (a) comprend un composant principal sélectionné dans le groupe composé de polybutadiène à terminaison carboxyle, de polyisoprène à terminaison carboxyle, des copolymères de butadiène avec acrylonitrile à terminaison carboxyle, des copolymères de butadiène avec styrène à terminaison carboxyle, des copolymères d'isoprène avec acrylonitrile à terminaison carboxyle, des copolymères d'isoprène avec styrène à terminaison carboxyle, et des mélanges de ceux-ci, le polymère avec un acide carboxyle terminal ayant un poids moléculaire moyen compris entre 1000 et 20000. Le polymère hydrophile à terminaison carboxyle (b) comprend un composant principal sélectionné dans le groupe composé des oxydes de polyéthylène à terminaison carboxyle et des polyols de polyéther à terminaison carboxyle qui sont des copolymères d'oxyde d'éthylène et d'un oxyde d'alkylène ayant 3 à 6 atomes de carbone, en une quantité qui ne dépasse pas 50 pourcent molaire dudit copolymère et ayant un poids moléculaire compris entre 400 et 20000. Le polycarbodiimide (c) est sélectionné dans le groupe composé des carbodiimides aromatiques, cycloaliphatiques, aliphatiques et hétérocycliques et des mélanges de deux ou plusieurs de ceux-ci, et a une fonctionnalité moyenne égale ou supérieure à 2. Le rapport molaire de carbodiimide/acide carboxylique du polycarbodiimide et du polymère à terminaison carboxyle est compris entre 0.7 et 6.
