A protective cover (Fig.4) for protection of agricultural products comprises a fibrous nonwoven fabric exhibiting sufficient vapor permeability to alter or control the ripening of the agricultural product so ensconced while retarding passage of dust and insects. The protective cover (Fig.4) is positioned generally about associated agricultural products, with the cover being particularly suited for use on products prior to harvest, such as bananas. The cover may be formed from fibrous and/or filamentary elements, and may be formed from fibrous material selected from the group consisting of thermoplastic polymers, thermoset polymers, natural fibers, and combinations thereof. The nonwoven fabric may be formed with protection-enhancing agents such as insecticidal, fungicidal, algaecidal, decay-inhibiting, and UV- protection agents. The nonwoven fabric may be pigmented as desired.

L'invention porte sur un couvercle de protection permettant de protéger des produits agricoles. Ce couvercle comprend un tissu non tissé fibreux présentant suffisamment de perméabilité à la vapeur afin de modifier ou de contrôler la maturation des produits agricoles enfouis tout en retardant le passage de la poussière et des insectes. Ce couvercle de protection est généralement placé autour des produits agricoles associés, le couvercle convenant particulièrement aux produits avant la récolte, telles les bananes. Ce couvercle peut être constitué d'éléments fibreux et/ou filamenteux, et peut être constitué de matériaux fibreux choisis dans le groupe polymères thermoplastiques, polymères thermodurcis, fibres naturelles et des combinaisons de ces derniers. Le tissu non tissé peut être fait d'agents améliorant la protection tels que les insecticides, les fongicides, les algicides, les agents inhibiteurs de décomposition et protecteurs contre les rayons UV. Ce tissu non tissé peut être pigmenté le cas échéant.
