A highly flexible prosthetic heart valve having an internal leaflet support frame that is designed to separate into individual cusps after implantation. The leaflet support frame (or ~stent~ or ~wireform~) has a plurality of alternating cusps (26) on an inflow end and commissures (44) on an outflow end. The cusps of flexible leaflets attach around the support frame cusps. The support frame (40) provides structural rigidity during implantation, but each support frame commissure has a point of weakness (76) that is designed to fracture upon repeated relative movement of the cusps after implantation such that the support frame cusps separate. Because of the flexible nature of the heart valve, after the cusps separate the implanted heart valve does not significantly impede the natural motions of the annulus or adjacent vessel walls. The support frame may be a homogeneous material such as Nitinol with the point of weakness being a narrowing at the commissure tips. The commissure tips can include enlarged regions adjacent the point of weakness that help prevent the separated ends from poking through surrounding fabric.

L'invention concerne une valvule cardiaque prothétique hautement souple comprenant une structure de support de valve interne conçue pour permettre une séparation en cuspides individuelles après une implantation. La structure de support de valve (ou "stent" ou "fil") comprend une pluralité de cuspides (26) disposées en alternance sur une extrémité d'entrée ainsi que des commissures (44) situées sur une extrémité de sortie. Les cuspides des valves souples sont fixées autour des cuspides de la structure de support. Cette structure de support (40) permet d'obtenir une rigidité structurale pendant l'implantation, mais chaque commissure de la structure de support présente un point plus fragile (76) pouvant se rompre après un mouvement relatif répété des cuspides après implantation de sorte que les cuspides de la structure de support se séparent. Du fait de la souplesse de la valvule cardiaque, après la séparation de cuspides, la valvule cardiaque implantée n'empêche pratiquement pas les mouvements naturels de l'annulus ou des parois des vaisseaux adjacents. La structure de support peut être un matériau homogène tel que le Nitinol, le point plus fragile étant un rétrécissement au niveau des pointes des commissures. Les pointes des commissures peuvent comprendre des zones élargies situées au voisinage du point plus fragile et contribuant à empêcher les extrémités séparées de s'enfoncer à travers le tissu environnant.
