A method of operating an internal combustion engine (22), wherein intake ambient air is boosted to a higher pressure by passage through at least one compressor (19) and then introduced into the internal combustion engine (22). Fuel is also introduced into the internal combustion engine (22) for providing combustion in admixture with the air charge at a combustion temperature approximating a target value. Various engine operating parameters, inclusive of torque demand, e.g., accelerator pedal depression (33), are sensed and the boosted pressure is changed in a manner proportional to a change in the sensed torque demand so as to maintain the combustion temperature at approximately the target value, i.e., below 2100~K.

L'invention concerne un procédé relatif au fonctionnement d'un moteur à combustion interne (22): l'air ambiant d'admission est porté à une pression de suralimentation supérieure via au moins un compresseur (19), puis injecté dans le moteur (22). Le carburant est également injecté dans le moteur (22), pour la combustion en mélange avec l'air, à une température de combustion approximativement égale à une valeur cible. Différents paramètres moteur, y compris la demande de couple, par exemple la dépression de pédale d'accélérateur (33), sont détectés, et la pression de suralimentation est modifiée proportionnellement à une modification intervenant dans la demande de couple détectée, ce qui permet de maintenir la température de combustion approximativement à la valeur cible, soit moins de 2100 ·K.
