A method of controlling birefringence in a rib waveguide structure manufactured in silicon (1), the rib waveguide structure comprising an elongated rib element (4) having an upper face and two side faces, the method comprising forming a layer of thermal oxide (7) to a predetermined thickness on said upper face and side faces of at least a portion of said rib waveguide structure.
Procédé de régulation de la biréfringence dans une structure de guide d'ondes à nervure fabriquée en silicium (1), ladite structure comportant une nervure allongée (4) pourvue d'une face supérieure et de deux faces latérales. Ledit procédé consiste à former une couche d'oxyde thermique (7) d'une épaisseur prédéterminée sur la face supérieure et sur les faces latérales d'au moins une partie de ladite structure de guide d'ondes à nervure.
