There is described an improved method for modifying operating conditions within a computer which translates instructions from a target instruction set to a host instruction set, the method including the steps of monitoring an event occurring within a component of the computer, wherein the event is the occurrence of a first exception during the execution of a translated sequence of host instructions, counting the occurrences of the event occurring within the selected interval, generating a second exception if the total of the occurrences of the event within the selected interval exceeds a prescribed limit, and responding to the second exception by modifying the translated sequence of host instructions.
La présente invention concerne un procédé de modification du fonctionnement au sein d'un ordinateur qui traduit des instructions à partir d'un ensemble d'instructions cibles en un ensemble d'instructions hôtes comportant une étape de suivi d'un événement se déroulant au sein d'une composante de l'ordinateur, le décompte des événements se déroulant au cours d'un intervalle choisi, la génération d'une exception si le total d'événements au cours de l'intervalle choisi dépasse une limite prescrite, et un réaction à l'exception par la modification d'une séquence d'instructions hôtes.
