ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A convection cooking apparatus has a convection heater for heating the air in an oven cavity, a magnetron arranged to be intermittently engaged so as to alternate with the convection heater, an oven temperature sensing element for detecting the oven temperature in the cavity, a first control responsive to an output signal from the oven temperature sensing element for maintaining the oven temperature at a predetermined value, and a food tempera- ture sensing element for detecting the temperature of food in the oven cavity. A second control responsive to an output signal from the food temperature sensing element develops a cooking completion signal when the food tem- perature reaches a preselected value, whereby the signals from the first and second controls are adapted to control the power supply to the convection heater and the magnetron so that microwave heating and convection heating are con- ducted in an alternative manner until a preset tempera- ture is reached in the atmosphere of the apparatus.
