A flow directing conveyor mechanism (10) includes a lower conveyor (12) defining an article supporting surface (18) for transporting articles for movement along a path of travel extending between inlet (24) and discharge (26) ends of the lower conveyor; and an upper conveyor (40) having pushing mechanisms (58) for displacing articles, while supported by the surface, transversely of the path of travel, as an incident to movement of the articles between the inlet and discharge ends.
