CIL 633A ABSTRACT A converter having an exterior shell of a strong heat resistant weldable material, an interior core tube of said material within said shell and concentric therewith, said shell and said core tube extending vertically from a foundation means, a plurality of annular catalyst beds between said shell and said core tube and located one above the other, each bed including a support plate of similar material for the catalyst thereof, a division plate of said material between said beds, said support and division plates being preformed in substantially the configuration of a trough-shaped toroidal section encircling said core tube to reduce sagging of said support plates and division plates in use, and said support and division plates being sealingly secured to said shell and core tube.
