A converter (100) comprises an assembly (1) comprising transformer primary (10) and secondary (11,12) windings and two pairs of primary (13) and secondary choke (14,15) windings wound around a core assembly. Switching circuits are coupled between the transformer primary winding and the two primary choke windings. Each switching circuit comprises a capacitor (C1,C2), diode (D1,D2) and MOSFET (Q1,Q2). The MOSFET's are switched on and off in a cyclical manner to provide a continuous output current from a continuous input current by operating in a push - pull manner. This converter provides improved utilisation of the core, no snubbering components are required, thereby increasing efficiency, and, because there is no capacitor on the output, the converter is not subject to high ripple currents.
