A convertible container holding assembly includes a housing (28) fixedly secured to a structure such as an armrest (24) or instrument panel (12). A base (30) is movable into and out of the housing between retracted and extended positions. The base includes a support (32) and a stabilizing edge (34). The support and stabilizing edge define a portion of a cupholding area. A stabilizing arm is pivotally secured to the base and positionable in an infinite number of positions such that it is capable of positively abutting the container (42) when the container is positively abutting the stabilizing edge, regardless of the diameter of the container. A brake (46) prevents the stabilizing arm from moving to its outermost position once it is forced into engagement with the container. The stabilizing arm may be reset by forcing it to its innermost position or by retracting the base into the housing and moving the base back to its extended position.
L'invention porte sur un support de récipients adaptable comportant un logement (28) solidaire d'une structure telle qu'un accoudoir (24) ou un tableau de bord (12), et une base (30), pouvant entrer dans le logement ou en sortir, munie d'un réceptacle (32) et d'un bord stabilisateur (34) délimitant à eux deux une partie de surface de pose. Un bras stabilisateur monté pivotant sur la base et déplaçable en continu bute sur le récipient lors que ce dernier bute contre le bord stabilisateur, et ce quel que soit le diamètre du récipient (42). Un frein (46) empêche le déplacement du bras stabilisateur vers sa position la plus extérieure lorsqu'il appuie sur le récipient. On peut ramener en arrière le bras stabilisateur en le poussant jusqu'à sa position la plus intérieure ou en ramenant la base dans le logement, puis en l'en faisant sortir au maximum.
