A bale shredder (10) is mounted on a frame (12) and has a flail (26) that will shred material, such as hay, straw and silage, and an auger (46) receives the shredded material and moves it toward a first end of the auger (46). The first end of the auger is surrounded by a chamber (50) that has a first opening (56) in an axial direction of the auger (46) that opens into a fan or blower (64) so that material going through the first opening (56) is blown out of a discharge chute (70). An endless conveyor (80) is mounted adjacent a second opening (60) of the chamber (50), laterally of the auger (46), and is positioned to receive material from the second opening (60). Panels (72, 94) are provided for selectively blocking the first opening (56) when the endless conveyor (80) is to be moving material from the chamber (50), and for blocking the second opening (60) when the fan (64) is to be used for discharging material. The fan (64) and conveyor (64, 80) are selectively used for delivery of shredded material from the bale shredder (10).
