ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A belt conveyor arrangement is disclosed in which the conveyor belt is driven by two drive cables which frictionally engage the undersurface of its upper run. The undersurface of the belt is provided with a first pair of immediately adjacent grooves near one belt edge and a second pair of similar grooves near the opposite belt edge, the grooves being arranged to frictionally receive the drive cables for driving the belt. One drive cable is periodically led out of one groove of the first pair, trained round the drive pulley, and then led back into the other groove of the first pair at substantially the same position as the exit position. The other drive cable is similarly arranged in relation to the second pair of grooves. - 1 -
