ABSTRACT The roller mantle of a conveyor belt roller is at both ends supported on a roller shaft by roller bearings held in end walls of the roller. The roller bearings are respectively fixed on the roller shaft by a snap ring which is inserted into an annular groove of the roller shaft and are sealed to ambient by a labyrinth seal which includes an inner ring and an outer ring. The rings of the labyrinth seal together with an end cap which surrounds the labyrinth seal rings are integrated a preassembled seal unit. The inner ring of the labyrinth seal is provided on the side opposite the roller bearing with an annular cut-out for the holding of the snap ring during installation and operation of the seal unit. The integration of the snap ring into the preassembled seal unit reduced the number of assembly steps required for the roller and obviates the use of special tools for insertion of the snap ring into the groove on the roller shaft.
