ABSTRACT Control apparatus and methods wherein distance pulses calibrate the movement of load-carrying members past receiving stations. Location codes for the members indicative of the station at which each respective member is to discharge its load are entered into a shift register having a plurality of stages equal in number to the greater of the number of load-carrying members and discharge stations plus one. The location codes move through the register responsive to each preselected number of distance pulses generated, with arrival of a member at the station where its load is to be discharged indicated by the arrival of the location code for that station at a stage of the register corresponding to that station. Fine tuning is achieved by requiring generation of a preselected but adjustable number of distance pulses after indication of arrival at a station of a member to be discharged before that member is in fact discharged. Adjustment of the preselected number of distance pulses required before discharge fine tunes the precise location of discharge.
