ABSTRACT A conveyor for transporting a substrate free from contact with any stationary portion of the conveyor. This is accomplished by providing guide elements received in recesses in a pair of track members, with the recess having a parti- cular configuration that physically holds the substrate support. The substrate support has outwardly and upwardly extending projections that retain the side and lower edges only of the substrate. The track members are also provided with guide plates that overide the edges of the substrate to retain the substrate on the conveyor. The guide plates are adjustable so that the substrate can be removed from the conveyor. Thus, the substrate is carried on the conveyor but can be removed from the conveyor whenever desired to do so.
