COOKING APPARATUS ABSTRACT A cooking apparatus is described for cooking food on sticks or skewers. A elongated cooking channel includes a bottom section in which fuel is located, and opposed side walls arranged to support transverse food sticks or skewers. The elongation of the cooking channel causes an air flow along the length of the channel. A smoke channel is located at one end of the cooking channel and discharges upwardly smoke entrained in the air flow along the cooking channel. The height of the opposed side walls is sufficient to leave at least half the height of the cooking channel open for the flow of air and smoke and the transverse food sticks or skewers co-operate with the side walls to effectively form a flue for passage of smoke and heated gases. The cooking channel has an inlet end partially closed by a lower end wall having a height generally equal to or slightly exceeding the recommended depth of fuel in the cooking section but terminating before the top edges of the opposed side walls whereby air is drawn into the inlet end of the end wall and between the opposed side walls. The smoke channel is comprised by a continuation of the cooking channel which is turned upwardly to the horizontal at between 15° and 45°. A ledge extends along each of the side walls to support a grill.
