An apparatus for air conditioning the interior of a structure is shown which can be run entirely off a DC power source, such as a storage battery. A shell and tube heat exchanger is combined with a mechanical refrigeration system to provide a wet shell side and a dry tube side of the apparatus. In the operation of the air conditioner, a mass of distributed water is established on the wet shell side, and a flow of ambient air is passed through the dry tube side and a resulting stream of dry cooled air is recovered. The streams of most and cooled air can either be combined or routed separately depending primarily upon the humidity of the surrounding environment to be cooled.
L'invention porte sur un appareil qui permet de conditionner l'air à l'intérieur d'une structure, lequel appareil peut être alimenté entièrement à partir d'une source d'alimentation en courant continu telle qu'une batterie d'accumulateurs. Selon l'invention, on combine un échangeur de chaleur à calandre à un système de réfrigération mécanique afin d'obtenir un appareil comprenant un côté calandre humide et un côté faisceau tubulaire sec. Lors du fonctionnement de l'appareil de conditionnement d'air, une masse d'eau distribuée est établie du côté calandre humide, et l'on fait circuler un courant d'air ambiant à travers le côté calandre humide afin de former un courant d'air humide. On fait circuler un courant d'air ambiant à travers le côté faisceau tubulaire sec et l'on récupère le courant d'air sec refroidi obtenu. On peut ensuite combiner les courants d'air humide et sec obtenus ou les acheminer séparément en fonction, essentiellement, de l'humidité de l'environnement à refroidir.
