ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A method for cooling a material in contact with a cooling medium comprises evaporating water contained in the cooling medium and adsorbing the evaporated water to soft burnt lime and causing the evaporation and the adsorption to be carried out under a reduced pressure to cool the material. An apparatus for carrying out the method is provided.
