ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A coolant liquid, e.g. water, is atomized by a compressed gas, e.g. air. The mixture is formed into a jet directed against a portion of the surface of one roll of a pair of rolls in a roll stand. This portion is on the exit side of the stand and faces the other roll.
