A calibration plate for the cooling of thermoplastic sheet material comprises a plurality of passageways for chilled fluid characterised in that at least part of the or each passageway is open to the operative surface of the plate. As with traditional calibration plates, vacuum passages may also be provided to draw a vacuum and maintain the sheet to be cooled in close contact with the plate during the cooling operation. The calibration plate of the invention therefore allows chilled fluid, in particular chilled water, into direct contact with the sheet surface. This has two beneficial effects: firstly, it lubricates the sheet surface, cutting down the friction; and, secondly, with direct contact between the cooling medium and the sheet surface the cooling effect is much more rapid and marked. The calibration plate of the invention therefore enables much higher throughput speeds to be achieved, speeding up the entire process of the production of the sheet material.
Plaque de calibrage pour le refroidissement de matériau en feuille thermoplastique, qui comporte une pluralité de passages pour du fluide réfrigéré caractérisés en ce qu'au moins une partie de chaque passage est ouverte sur la surface de travail de la plaque. Comme pour les plaques de calibrage classiques, des passages d'aspiration peuvent également être ménagés afin de créer un vide et de maintenir la feuille à refroidir en contact étroit avec la plaque pendant l'opération de refroidissement. La plaque de calibrage selon la présente invention permet donc à du fluide réfrigéré, en particulier de l'eau réfrigérée, de venir en contact direct avec la surface de la feuille. Ce phénomène a deux effets bénéfiques: premièrement, il lubrifie la surface de la feuille en réduisant la friction; et deuxièmement, avec un contact direct entre le milieu de refroidissement et la surface de la feuille, l'effet de refroidissement est bien plus rapide et marqué. Ladite plaque de calibrage permet donc d'atteindre des rendements beaucoup plus élevés, ce qui accélère le déroulement de l'intégralité du processus de production dudit matériau en feuille.
