Abstract of the Disclosure. A cooling or freezing plant, comprising a housing wherein conveyor means are arranged having supports for moving horizontally arranged carriers for the material to be cooled or frozen in the vertical direction one above the other from an inlet opening to an exit opening, and wherein means for circulating cold air through the housing are provided, wherein the conveyor means in the housing comprise two conveyor devices, viz. one for upward and one for downward movement of the carriers and a transfer device arranged between the two conveyor devices and wherein a path of transportation extending from the exit opening to the inlet opening of the housing, a conveyor positioned along the path for moving the carriers in such a way along the path that the front ends of the carriers follow immediately behind the trailing ends of the preceding carriers so as to form an almost unbroken carpet, the conveyor, moreover, being adapted so as to be engaged with the carriers at the exit opening of the housing and to be disengaged from the carriers after the positioning of the carriers on the supports of one of the two conveyor de- vices in the housing, a station for positioning the material to be cooled or frozen, arranged at the path of transportation before the inlet opening and a station for removing the cooled or frozen material arranged at the path of transportation after the exit opening, the two stations being arranged at approximately the same level. -1-
