A cooling tower treatment system for decontaminating and/or disinfecting internal surfaces of a cooling tower. The system includes a process line for withdrawing a portion of water flowing through the cooling tower and returning the water to the tower. Ozone is injected into the process line such that water returned to the cooling tower contains ozone which releases into the cooling tower and treats the internal surfaces thereof.
