ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pair of optical guide channel arrays each in- cluding a plurality of parallel optical guide channels which containing optical scatterer are superposed to form an input board with the optical guide channels of the two arrays intersected at right angles. A light pen containing a battery is used to project alight beam onto the input board. The projected light is scattered by the optical scatterer and the scattered light propagates through the optical guide channels and is detected by photo detectors. The signals detected by the photo detectors are processed to form a binary signal train which is used to determine the coordinate position upon which the light beam is pro- jected from the light pen. The coodinate input apparatus has a simple construction, a high resolution and relia- bility and the light pen can be made as a cordless type.
