Disclosed is a novel cycloolefin random copolymer formed from 10-90 mol% of ethylene and 90-10 mol% of an isomer mixture of up to 80 mol% of an endo form and at least 20 mol% of an exo form of a cycloolefin of the formula: Image (I) (wherein R1 through R18 are each hydrogen, halogen or hydro- carbon, a pair of some of them may form a cyclic group, n is 0 or 1, m is 0 or a positive integer, provided m and n are not 0 simultaneously), and having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.05 to 10 dl/g as measured in decalin at 135°C.
