B 33504 Abstract Copolymer Production Copolymers of poly(B-hydroxybutyric acid) and poly(B-hydroxyvaleric acid) are produced by culturing alcohol-utilising strains of Alcaligenes eutrophus on a carbon source including primary alcohols having an odd number of carbon atoms such as propan-1-ol. The copolymers may be used in the production of biodegradable plastic resins, films, coatings and the like.
