Method for imparting stain resistance to a substrate comprising contacting the substrate with a copolymer comprising Formula 1. wherein D is an aryl olefin, alpha olefin or diene, each M is independently H, Ca, Mg1 Al, Na, or K, each R1 is independently H, C1 - C6 alkyl, or C1 - C6 hydroxyalkyl, each R2 is independently C1 - C12 alkyl, C1 - C6 hydroxyalkyl, C6F5, arylalkyl, C6H4OH, R3COOH1 or R3SO3H1 or R1 and R2 are linked together to form a morpholino or pyrrolidino ring, R3 is C1 - C12 alkyl, CH(COOH)CH2CH2, C6H4, or C6H3(OH), h1 + h2 is h, h is a positive integer, k, i and j are each independently zero or a positive integer, provided that the total of 1) h AE (k + h + i + j) is 0.005 to 0.7, 2) k AE (k + h + i + j) is 0.3 to 0.6, and 3) [i + j] AE (k + h + i + j) is 0 to 0.6.

L'invention porte sur un procédé qui permet de conférer une résistance aux taches à un substrat, lequel procédé consiste à mettre le substrat en contact avec un copolymère de la formule 1, dans laquelle D est aryle oléfine, alpha oléfine ou diène, chaque M est indépendamment H, Ca, Mg1 Al, Na, ou K, chaque R1 est indépendamment H, C1 - C6 alkyle, ou C1 - C6 hydroxyalkyle, chaque R2 est indépendamment C1 - C12 alkyle, C1 - C6 hydroxyalkyle, C6F5, arylalkyle, C6H4OH, R3COOH1 ou R3SO3H1 ou R1 et R2 sont liés entre eux pour former un cycle morpholino ou pyrrolidino, R3 estC1 - C12 alkyle, CH(COOH)CH2CH2, C6H4, ou C6H3(OH), h1 + h2 est égal à h, h étant un entier positif, k, i et j sont chacun indépendamment égaux à zéro ou à un entier positif, à condition que le total de: 1) h AE (k + h + i + j) soit de 0,005 à 0,7; 2) de k AE (k + h + i + j) soit de 0,3 à 0,6; et 3) de [i + j] AE (k + h + i + j) soit de 0 à 0,6.
